A brilliant young man named Onyeka Remigius has emerged as the overall best graduating student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Nigeria, after earning a Bachelor of Optometry degree with an outstanding 4.94 CGPA out of 5.00.

His achievement reflects an exceptional level of academic excellence, discipline, and consistency across five years of rigorous professional training in one of the most demanding health-related fields in the university system.

Onyeka’s success is particularly remarkable because it places him at the very top of his graduating set, not only within his department but across the entire Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology, making him the overall best graduating student of his cohort.

 

Onyeka's Story and How She Did It

He began his academic journey at FUTO in 2019, gaining admission into the Optometry programme. From the very beginning, he committed himself to a path of focus, sacrifice, and sustained academic effort, fully aware of the intensity of the programme he had chosen.

Optometry, being a highly specialized medical-related discipline, requires a strong foundation in science, clinical training, and practical application.

Over the course of five years, Onyeka went through intensive coursework, laboratory sessions, and clinical exposure designed to prepare him as a professional eye care practitioner.

Throughout this period, he remained consistent in his academic performance, gradually building a record of excellence that eventually culminated in his outstanding final CGPA of 4.94.

His academic excellence was recognized through several prestigious awards, including PMF Best Overall Graduating Student, PMF Best Graduating Student in SOHT, FUTO University Award, Vice-Chancellor’s Award, Dean’s Award (SOHT), FUTO Women Association Prize and Professor Chigozie Cyril Asiabaka’s Prize.

These awards highlight not only his academic brilliance but also his consistency across different levels of evaluation within the university system.
