Meet Victory Akpoiroro, who broke 10-year-old record of UNICAL to emerge as overall best student in Law with first-class

A brilliant young lady named Victory Akpoiroro has made history at University of Calabar (UNICAL), Nigeria, after breaking a 10-year-old record to emerge as the Overall Best Graduating Student in Law.

Victory earned her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with a first-class honour, finishing with an outstanding cumulative grade point average of 4.58.

Her exceptional performance not only placed her at the top of her class but also earned her the prestigious title of Best Graduating Student in her faculty.

Victory's Story and How She Did It

Her journey, which began in 2019, was marked by resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Over the course of her studies, she completed 10 semesters and sat for 39 examinations without recording a single carryover, an achievement that reflects both consistency and discipline.

Beyond academics, Victory balanced her studies with entrepreneurship. From her first year to her final year, she actively ran a bakery business, selling cakes while managing the demanding workload of a Law degree.

She also participated in competitions, sometimes traveling and returning just in time to sit for exams.

However, her journey was not without challenges. Just 14 days before the start of her final year first-semester exams, she lost her father, a devastating moment that could have derailed her dreams.

Despite the grief, she pushed forward, often studying through tears and emotional pain. Reflecting on her journey, Victory described it as a story of strength and perseverance.

“There were days I broke down, cried out of frustration, and stayed up all night in pursuit of this degree. Losing my dad months before graduation was the hardest moment, but I was determined to finish strong,” she wrote on LinkedIn.

She also spoke about overcoming personal struggles, including broken friendships and emotional setbacks, which further tested her resolve. Yet, she remained focused on her goal.

Today, Victory stands as a symbol of resilience and excellence. She credits her success to God, the support of her family, especially her mother and the friendships she built along the way.
