Mother of 3 emerges best graduating student at University of Cape Coast with 3.80CGPA in Nursing, wins scholarship for masters

AFRICA | Khadijah Abu Seidu, a dedicated mother of three from Ghana, has defied the odds to emerge as the overall best graduating student in the Bachelor of Science (Midwifery Top-Up) program at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana.

With an impressive Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.80, Khadijah was also awarded the best graduating student in the BSc. Nursing-Top Up, BSc: Midwifery-Top Up, and Diploma in Midwifery programs.

Her outstanding academic performance earned her a scholarship from UCC to pursue a two-year MPhil or MSc program in Nursing or Midwifery, further solidifying her reputation as a trailblazer in her field.

Khadijah’s journey to academic excellence began with her performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

After excelling in the BECE, she returned to Tamale, enrolling at Ghana Secondary School, where she achieved aggregate 17 in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Determined to build a career in healthcare, she pursued a Diploma in Midwifery at Tamale Community Health Nursing School. Between 2019 and 2022, she furthered her education at the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College.

She went on to the University of Cape Coast, where she enrolled in the top-up BSc—midwifery program.

As a wife and mother of three, Khadijah’s path had its challenges.. Juggling the demands of marriage, motherhood, and academic responsibilities required immense dedication and sacrifice.

Despite these, she remained steadfast in her pursuit of excellence, consistently achieving stellar results.

Khadijah’s achievements at UCC were celebrated during the graduation ceremony, where she was recognized as the: Overall Best Graduating Student in the BSc. (Nursing-Top Up), BSc. (Midwifery-Top Up), and Diploma in Midwifery programs.

Khadijah was also the Best Graduating Student in BSc. Midwifery-Top Up (Centre-Based). Her success did not go unnoticed, with UCC’s Facebook page highlighting her accomplishments and announcing her scholarship for a master’s degree.
