AFRICAN | A Nigerian man emerges best graduating student of MOUA with 4.90/5.00 in Computer Engineering, wins $600K PhD scholarship in US
A brilliant Nigerian man named Nicholas Ikechukwu who emerged as the best graduating student of a Nigerian University has won a full scholarship worth 600,000 dollars to study for his PhD in the United States.
Nicholas won the overall best-graduating student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUA), Eastern Nigeria after he earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering with a remarkable 4.90 over a 5.00 cumulative grade point average.
He shared his achievement of winning a full scholarship to study for a doctorate degree in the United States highlighting all of his accomplishments from when he began his undergraduate and all his academic achievements.

Aside from winning the overall best-graduating student of his set in 2021, Nicholas was also the best-graduating student of MOUA’s College and Department of Engineering.
He said he earned a world class opportunity with just his Bachelor of Engineering degree. He won a fully-funded PhD scholarship with a funding package of 600,000 dollars to study at Boston University in Massachusetts, United States.
”I have received a golden opportunity to advance my education and research competence at a world-class institution, Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, USA 🇺🇸; backed by a funding/scholarship package of nearly $600k,” he said.
At Boston University, Nicholas said he would join the Computer Science Ph.D. program and focus on AI, specifically Machine Learning & Computer Vision, with potential applications in Robotics and Medical Image Analysis.
Nicholas is thankful to Nigeria for the opportunities and resilience it instilled in him. He said that despite demoralizing challenges, these struggles have only strengthened him for the future.
He said he is hopeful, that when he is done with his research studies, and returns to apply his training, he will contribute to a Nigeria that values its people, promotes capable leadership, rises above tribalism and bigotry, and upholds the rule of law for the good of all.
He also expressed his gratitude to those who played a crucial role in his journey especially his Parents and Siblings, his professors at MOUAU, his friends, and the academic community on LinkedIn.
Nicholas hopes his story inspires passionate and talented graduates, undergraduates, and final-year students. He said their dreams of world-class education are valid, and their diligence for excellent grades is extremely relevant.
