Brilliant Nigerian Achunike Okafor has emerged as the best-graduating student of Science Park High School, Newark in the United States (US). He also won scholarship offers to 40 top universities in the United States.
Okafor is an 18-year-old Nigerian boy who graduated from Science Park High School, Newark in the United States. He scored the highest grade point average in both the school and the entire New Jersey school district with an impressive 4.625 grade point.
The brilliant’s teen outstanding performance earned him 40 scholarship offers from top universities in the United States including Ivy League Schools.
The universities include Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth University, Duke University, Princeton University, Pennsylvania State University, Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Southern California, and Rutgers University.

“I am grateful for the opportunities to attend such esteemed universities and to represent my family and community. I do not take lightly the privilege and responsibility to be among the few individuals selected for such honors,” he said.
Okafor was also a recipient of an International Baccalaureate diploma and is also known by his peers and teachers as an exceptional writer and advocate. He is also a member of his school’s Environmental Club.
He advocates for change in environmental laws by sending letters to officials voicing concerns about pH levels in water and lake acidification, as reported in a statement by the Research and Development Council of New Jersey.
Achunike’s father, Godfrey Okafor who is a high school math teacher said his son’s achievement has made their family proud as education Is taken with high esteem in the Okafor family.
“We place a high premium on education in our home. Education, and continuing to learn in life, allows young people to provide for themselves and their families, and build their future,” Okafor said.

He also mentioned that his five other children, including two older sons and three daughters, are currently studying computer engineer and pharmacology, or enrolled at nursing school and law school in the States.
Apart from being an exceptional student in the classroom, Achunike was also the co-founder of his school’s Science Club, vice president of its Junior Student Council, and its Stand & Deliver Club.
He was the president of its Future Educators Club, president of the Black Student Union, co-captain of its robotics team, and treasurer of the school Environmental Club. Science Park high school principal, Darlene Gearhart described Okafor as an extraordinary and goal-driven person.
“There’s absolutely nothing average about him, Achunike is an extraordinary (person). He’s humble, driven, and industrious. He has always been a great kid. He is always eager to learn,” Darlene Gearhart said.
The Superintendent of Schools in the Newark community, Roger León also acknowledged Achunike’s exceptional performance as a source of pride for Science Park High, the school district, and the Newark community at large.
“We are extremely proud of Achunike Okafor, his achievements are a testament to his perseverance, resilience, and dedication to excellence. We wish him continued success at Harvard, and look forward to more accomplishments from him in the future,” León said.
Achunike plans to attend Harvard University to pursue a major in Neuroscience degree and a minor in Art, Film, and Visual Studies.
