A 17-year-old Nigerian boy named David Alayande has emerged as one of the top scorers in Nigeria’s 2024 Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) Examination, achieving an impressive score of 367 out of 400 points.
David, a student of Zamani College in Kaduna, Nigeria, ranked third overall in the 2024 JAMB examination, an outstanding achievement that earned him a full scholarship to study Software Engineering at Nile University, Abuja.
Reflecting on his success, David revealed that his initial goal was to achieve a perfect score, inspired by his sister’s academic achievements.

From the beginning of his senior year, he engaged in intense preparation, taking pre-mock and mock exams regularly to guide his studies and sharpen his focus. He credits this approach for helping him achieve precision in his study habits.
David also mentioned that his teachers were instrumental in his preparation, often reviewing past questions and ensuring he understood the material. He practiced one past exam question per day in his weakest subject areas.
When David first saw his results, he took a screenshot and jokingly shared it with his friends, unaware of how exceptional his score was. However, when he showed his parents, they were overjoyed and extremely proud when he finally showed them.
David expressed his gratitude to God and his family, stating that he was deeply touched by the congratulatory messages from friends and classmates, which made him feel appreciated and supported.
With his full scholarship, David will now pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering at Nile University. He mentioned that while he originally wanted to study Architecture, he changed his mind due to the growing significance of technology in today’s world.
”Originally, I wanted to study Architecture. But I changed it to Software Engineering because the world is revolving and I don’t want to be left behind,” he said.
He stated that his love for mathematics and creativity played a major role in his decision to pursue Software Engineering. ”I like making things. I also want to study a course where I can work remotely. So, I can say I found all my interests in Software Engineering,” he said.
David attributed his success to the support he received at Zamani College. He praised the school’s focus on syllabus coverage and personalized teaching, explaining that the teachers understood each student’s strengths and weaknesses and adapted their teaching accordingly.
He also mentioned the additional Saturday classes organized to prepare students for the JAMB Examination, stating that while the preparation was demanding, he was grateful for the school’s dedication.
For students coming behind him, David encouraged them to combine hard work with prayer, as both were vital to his success. He emphasized the importance of striving for excellence and building on the foundation laid by previous students, reminding them that with determination and God’s grace, they too can achieve greatness.
