Brilliant Nigerian Lady emerges best graduating student of UI with 3.82/4.00 in Engineering, celebrates success

AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian lady named Latifat Oseni has emerged as the overall best graduating female student of the University of Ibadan for the 2024 academic session.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Production Engineering with an impressive 3.82 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) over 4.00.

Latifat’s academic journey began at Yaba College of Technology, where she studied Welding and Fabrication Engineering and graduated as the overall best female student of the 2020/2021 session with a CGPA of 3.80.

In a bid to further her studies, she enrolled in the University of Ibadan through the Direct Entry program. In an interview with TESA, she shared that she had envisioned her achievement long before it became reality, having once excelled similarly.

She described her time at UI as tough but rewarding. The pressure to maintain high academic standards, especially during exams, often weighed on her.

Also, financial and emotional stress were part of the journey, and there were times she found herself in tears after challenging courses like data analysis.

Despite the struggles, she never gave up. Her unwavering belief that God is the best planner gave her strength during moments of doubt, and she reminded herself that to be the best, she had to give her best.

Alongside her studies, Latifat was active in extracurricular activities. She served as the assistant coordinator of the Muslim Tech Students Gathering (MTSG) under the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, UI Chapter (MSSNUI), a role she handled effectively without compromising her academic performance.

She also pursued her interest in data analysis, taking additional courses to sharpen her skills.

Reflecting on her achievement, Latifat expressed a deep sense of fulfillment. She sees her success as a personal triumph over the many challenges she faced in the academic system.

For other women in STEM, Latifat encouraged them to remain steadfast in their pursuits. According to her, success is possible if one is willing to endure the tough moments and keep pushing through.

Latifat also advised undergraduates to be consistent in class attendance, collaboration with peers, and, most importantly, the power of prayer.

Looking ahead, Latifat hopes to build a future that blends her engineering background with data analysis and is confident that with God’s guidance, she can achieve whatever comes next.
