AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian lady named Sandra Ozioma Marume, has achieved a rare academic feat, graduating with double first-class honors in Law and earning the prestigious Mastercard Foundation Scholarship to study in the United Kingdom (UK).
Sandra’s journey to academic excellence began at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Nigeria, where she earned her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) with a first-class honor.
Following her undergraduate studies, she proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, where she underwent the rigorous one-year training required to become a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Despite the intense academic and practical demands, Sandra excelled once again, earning another first-class grade, thereby achieving the rare feat of a double first-class as a lawyer.

Sharing her achievement on LinkedIn, Sandra revealed that she accomplished this despite the significant visual impairment associated with albinism.
Her resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to excellence have now earned her a spot among global scholars, as she secured the prestigious Mastercard Foundation Scholarship to study for a master’s degree at The University of Edinburgh, UK.
The University of Edinburgh MasterCard Scholarship is a one-year postgraduate on-campus scholarship that covers fully approved tuition, accommodation, travel, living cost stipend, and study materials including a laptop.

Sandra expressed deep gratitude to God Almighty and to everyone who supported her throughout her academic journey especially her parents, for their unconditional love, protection, acceptance, and understanding of her limitations.
She also acknowledged her mentors, for their constant support and guidance and the Mastercard Foundation, for selecting her out of over 4,000 applicants.
Reflecting on her journey, Sandra shared that she remained determined despite all the challenges that came her way.
”In the past two decades and half, I have learnt that whatever the mind can conceive, It can achieve no matter the challenges. Set those goals, you will be surprised at how fast you would accomplish them,” she said.
Sandra is excited to join a strong global network of change-makers as an MCF Scholar, and she looks forward to making an impact in the legal field and beyond.
