AFRICA | A brilliant young Nigerian lady named Nosirat Oluwabukola Dada has graduated from Lagos State University (LASU), earning a first-class degree in Botany with a remarkable 4.59 cumulative grade point average.
Her achievement earned her the award of the best graduating student of the Department of Botany, Lagos State University, for the 2023/2024 session.
In a LinkedIn post, Nosirat shared that her journey began with uncertainty, no clear direction, but a mindset that education is the key.
In primary school, she struggled to keep up. While her classmates learned to read and write with ease, she was often found in the headmistress’s office, battling the fear of failure while repeating classes.. Yet, she refused to give in.

However, things took a different turn when she got into secondary school on a scholarship. The funding changed her mindset, and she became more focused on her studies. Initially, her dream was to study Nursing, to wear the white coat, and care for others.
But life had other plans, Nosirat was offered Botany at the university, presenting another challenge as she found it hard to connect with the course.
Though with little or no interest, she had a strong will, Nosirat stepped into a world she knew nothing about, and gradually she started to adapt.
Eventually, she developed an interest in the course and thrived in the Botany world. With determination, discipline, and support, she pushed through challenges and embraced her studies, emerging as the top 1 in her department.
Beyond the classroom, Nosirat used her voice to advocate for the planet, serving as an award-winning climate ambassador and making an impact through several organisations. She also represented the youth of Lagos State, holding the title of Youth Ambassador from 2022 to 2024.
Nosirat stated that none of her achievements would have been possible without the unwavering support of her parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and lecturers, whom she said all played a part in her academic journey.
