AFRICA | A determined Nigerian lady, Adams Zaenab, has shown that one setback does not define a person’s future.
Zaenab graduated from the Lagos State University (LASU) with a bachelor of Law earning a 2.96 cumulative grade point average (CGPA), a second class liwer division grade she was not happy about.
However, she did not allow that result to define her potential or limit her dreams. Instead, she chose to rewrite her story and push herself further. Proceeding to the Nigerian Law School, she embraced the challenge with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment.
However, her time at law school came with unexpected emotional trials. Just a few weeks after resumption, her long-term relationship of over five years came to an end.

The heartbreak hit her hard, breaking her spirit in a way she had never experienced. She questioned how she could focus on her academics when her strongest emotional support had crumbled right in the middle of one of the most important phases of her life.
Even when her loved ones shifted their expectations from “first class” to “just pass,” Zaenab held onto a small flame of belief.
After her externship, she had a moment of clarity and asked herself a simple but powerful question: “What would it profit me to lose someone I love and also lose the career I’ve dreamed of since childhood?”
From that point on, she shifted her energy and focus. She studied with renewed purpose, pouring herself into preparation, believing that her success was still within reach.
Her determination paid off. She walked into the bar finals with calm confidence, writing each paper with clarity and conviction. Though she sat alone, without distractions, and in full view of the invigilators, she never doubted the strength of her preparation or the presence of God by her side.
After the exams, while many others were anxious about results, Zaenab was in mourning, not over her grades, but over her lost relationship. She had retreated into herself, processing grief in silence. Yet, despite the emotional storm, she presevered and remained commited.
Despite everything, she balanced her studies with creative work. She remained active on social media, managed her law school’s digital platforms, created content and vlogs, and even attended events—all while pushing herself academically.
Now, as she moves forward, Zaenab is seeking new opportunities in Oil and Gas, Tech Law, and other sectors that will allow her to explore her full intellectual capacity.
