Notably, she was one of only three recipients of the Standard Bank Derek Cooper Scholarship and the sole recipient of the Wadham College Eprime Eshag Senior Scholarship.
Toyosi’s achievements extended beyond her degree. She was awarded the Rex Warner Fiction Prize for her short story “Dignity is Bad for Business” and participated in the prestigious Oxford University Student Entrepreneurship Program.
As part of this program, she collaborated with three other talented women to establish an Oxford University spin-out company. Additionally, she secured multiple grants, extra funding, and internships during her time at Oxford.
Despite her achievements and awards, Toyosi faced immense personal and academic struggles. In a heartfelt reflection, she shared her battle with anxiety, depression, and exhaustion throughout her time at Oxford.
”The truth is in Oxford, I got scared and tired. Struggled to make friends and barely managed to keep my head up. I made really horrible mistakes. I became so anxious, depressed, afraid, and tired. I stopped depending,” she said.
Toyosi credited her faith, family, friends, and mentors for helping her persevere. “but HE was still so merciful and HE held my hand through it. I cried a lot, fell ill a lot, almost dropped out, and beat myself up for silly things but I finished! God’s name be praised,” she added.
Toyosi expressed profound gratitude to her professors and advisors at the Faculty of Law and Saïd Business School for their unwavering support.
She also thanked her college, Wadham College, for its inclusivity and the Africa Oxford Initiative for their kindness and guidance.
Reflecting on her experience, Toyosi described her time at Oxford University as one of the most challenging yet rewarding periods of her life.
