A brilliant Nigerian Lawyer named Vincent Okonkwo has achieved an extraordinary milestone by earning a Master of Laws (LLM) degree with distinction from Harvard University, Cambridge in the United States.
He shared his inspiring journey on LinkedIn, reflecting on the surreal experience of studying at one of the world’s most prestigious institutions. Vincent described his achievement as a dream he once thought was unrealistic.
Born and raised in Maraba, a modest community in Nigeria, Vincent’s journey to Harvard was not smooth. He described his self-doubt and disbelief, even as he earned numerous accolades at Harvard, including over seven academic honors, a Dean’s Prize, and a Dean’s Award.

“Who would have believed that the upstart with a checkered history from the trenches of Maraba would make it to a place like Harvard? I had no business getting here. Even more, I had no business belonging here. But if there is anything my time here has taught me, it is that no one ever fully belongs with this rarefied idea that is Harvard,” he added.
Vincent expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from extraordinary individuals at Harvard. He added that he is committed to pursuing excellence and using his education to elevate the human experience.
He began his legal education at the University of Benin, where he earned a Bachelor of Law (LLB) with honors. He later obtained his Barrister-at-Law certificate at the Nigerian Law School.
In addition to his Harvard LLM, Vincent holds a distinction certificate in Future Issues in Cybersecurity Policy, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning, a program jointly offered by Harvard Kennedy School and the Massachusetts Sloan School of Management.
