AFRICA | A young Nigerian man named Idrees Adebayo has achieved outstanding academic success, graduating from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with a first-class degree in Actuarial Science, earning a 4.70 cumulative grade point average out of 5.00.
In addition to his degree, Idrees also earned two rigorous professional certifications as a Chartered Accountant (AAT and ACA)—an exceptional feat achieved alongside his undergraduate studies.
Idrees' Story and How He Did It
Idrees began his academic journey at UNILAG in 2020, where he maintained consistent excellence through the demanding Actuarial Science programme. After six challenging years, he graduated in 2026, finishing in the top 3% of his class.
Sharing his achievement on LinkedIn, Idrees described the journey as “six demanding, stretching, humbling years,” calling the milestone a quiet reward for countless late nights, self-doubt, sacrifice, and resilience.
Along the way, he earned his AAT and ACA certifications, all while juggling a full-time role, learning through setbacks, and pushing forward even when rest felt deserved but impossible.

Reflecting on where it all began, Idrees revealed that he was initially a science student who wrote JAMB to study Pharmacy at the University of Ilorin.
But an unexpected gap year changed everything, redirecting his path and introducing him to a purpose he never planned but fully embraced.
He credited his success to faith, family, and support systems, noting that “the God factor cannot be denied.” He expressed deep gratitude to his parents, family, and friends who believed in him and stood by him through the uncertainty.
Looking ahead, Idrees says he is open to the future, uncertain, unwritten, and full of possibilities, but confident that this achievement marks only the beginning of his journey.
