AFRICA | A young Nigerian man bags bachelors degree in Law with 4.62 first-class, wins best student award
A brilliant Nigerian man named Joshua Adeyeye, has graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, achieving an impressive 4.62 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) and earning a first-class degree.
His remarkable performance also earned him the title of Best Graduating Male Student in the Department of Law and the honor of being the second-best graduating student in the Faculty of Law.
Beyond his academic excellence, Joshua demonstrated exceptional leadership and versatility. He served in several leadership roles, including serving as the 54th President of the Law Students’ Society (LSS) for the 2023/2024 academic session, having previously held the position of Academic Secretary for the 2022/2023 session.

Additionally, he contributed significantly as the Chief Operating Officer of the Forum for Emerging Technology and as a member of the Student Advisory Board at the Hon. Justice Innocent Umezulike Foundation.
Joshua’s academic excellence was recognized with six prestigious awards. He received the Dr. Teslim Elias Prize, the Prof. Imran Oluwole Smith Prize, and the Late Prof. Jelili Omotola Prize, all for his outstanding performance in Land Law.
Furthermore, he was honored with the Hon. Justice Innocent Umezulike Foundation Prize for Best in Land/Property Law, accompanied by a ₦100,000 cash prize.
His achievements extended beyond Land Law, as he also received the Chris Ogunbanjo & Co Prize and the Babs Mobolaji Prize, both for his exceptional performance in Company Law.
In addition to these academic accolades, Joshua gained hands-on experience through internships at prestigious law firms, including Banwo & Ighodalo, Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie
G. Elias and ALN Nigeria | Aluko & Oyebode.
Joshua also excelled in competitions, winning awards in essay contests, moot and mock trials, and debates. His impressive achievements include winning the National Data Protection Moot Competition hosted by Meta and the SAA National Moot and Debate Competition hosted by the Student Advocates’ Association (SAA-LASU).
He was a top 3 finalist in esteemed essay competitions organized by the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF), J.O. Fabunmi & Co., Primus Grace LP, Pentagon Partners LP, and the Hon. Justice Innocent Umezulike Foundation.
Furthermore, he secured the position of 1st Runner-Up at THE TRUSTED ADVISORS Moot and Mock Trial at the Nigerian Law School and served as a researcher for the Winning Team at the Taiwo Afolabi Annual Maritime National Competition (T.A.A.M 5.0).
Beyond academics and competitions, Joshua also dedicated himself to service, earning 15 volunteering experiences. These ranged from guest speaking engagements and essay judging to mentoring junior colleagues and conducting tutorials for law students.
Joshua expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Faculty of Law, UNILAG, the Distinguished Dean, the immediate past Dean, and his supervisor, for their guidance and support throughout his academic journey.
