Exceptional Nigerian man earns 75 distinctions out of 83 courses, graduates FUTA with 4.92CGPA in Industrial Engineering

AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian scholar, Ederhite Ovie, has achieved outstanding academic success, graduating from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) with a 4.92 CGPA in Industrial and Production Engineering.

Ovie’s remarkable performance placed him in the top 1% of the 1% among over 5,000 graduates in the Class of 2023/2024.

During his time at FUTA, Ovie accomplished the rare feat of being on the Dean’s List for 10 consecutive semesters, achieving five perfect 5.0-grade point averages (GPA), with his lowest GPA being 4.74.

His dedication and consistency culminated in an impressive 75 distinctions out of 83 courses, earning him several academic awards and recognitions.

Reflecting on his journey, Ovie shared on Linkedin that he initially aspired to attend a military school and become an Air Force cadet, but life had other plans.

His path took an unexpected turn when he found himself in university—an experience that ultimately shaped his growth, mindset, and aspirations.

Beyond academic excellence, Ovie actively took on leadership roles throughout his university years. He served as the Librarian of his church fellowship in his second year, Academic Coordinator in his third year, and President of the fellowship in his final year.

Ovie firmly believes in the power of faith and service, stating: “I am a living testament to the saying, ‘It pays to serve God.’”

Ovie also gained valuable industry experience, interning at Chevron Nigeria Limited and Tempo Paper Pulp & Packaging Plc. These opportunities provided him with practical exposure and a deeper understanding of the industry.

Additionally, he dedicated time to volunteering and mentorship, serving as Program Chairperson for the SPE FUTA Chapter and Active Volunteer with Teens-Launch Africa and CleanUP.

Ovie expressed his deep gratitude to his parents, friends, and fellowship family (ASF) for their unwavering support, and his academic mentors for their invaluable guidance.

He also thanked organizations like Chevron, the Petroleum Training and Development Fund, and Renaissance Support, for supporting his journey

As he embarks on the next chapter of his life, Ovie is eager to face new challenges, make a positive impact, and inspire others to pursue their dreams. “With faith and hard work, no dream is unattainable,” he said.
