AFRIC | A brilliant Nigerian man emerges best graduating student of FUNAAB with 4.92/5.00CGPA, wins ₦250,000 cash prize.
An exceptional Nigerian scholar, Senibi Solomon, has emerged as the overall best graduating student of the 2023/2024 class at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Nigeria.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Breeding and Genetics with an outstanding 4.92/5.00 cumulative grade point average (CGPA). In recognition of his academic excellence, Solomon was awarded a ₦250,000 cash prize by the university.
In his valedictory speech, Solomon reflected on his time at FUNAAB, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support of his family, lecturers, and mentors.

Despite facing criticism for his love of reading, with some warning him that excessive studying could lead to a brain tumor, he remained committed to his academic pursuits.
He also navigated significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and industrial actions, yet he remained focused and attributed his success to his consistent study habits.
Sharing his achievements on Linkedin, Solomon shared his impressive academic achievements on LinkedIn, highlighting the 11 notable awards he received.
These include the Best All-Round Graduating Student award, the Prof. (Mrs.) Adebambo Prize for excellence in Animal Biotechnology, Animal Breeding, and Genetics, and the Late Prof. O.O. Oluwatosin Prize for outstanding performance in Principles of Agricultural Biochemistry (ANN 304).
He also received the Capital Life Assurance Limited Prize, the Olori Wulemot Abike Olabomi Prize, and the SkyFarm Aerial Spray Limited Prize, all recognizing him as the Overall Best Graduating Student.
Furthermore, Solomon was awarded with the Senate Annual Prize for achieving First-Class Honors in the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics and the Chancellor’s 32nd Convocation Prize for being the Overall Best Graduating Student.
In late 2024, his exceptional academic performance was further acknowledged at the 7th FUNAABSU Judicial Council Summit with the 400-Level Best Student Award (COLANIM) and at the TACSFON FUNAAB Finalist Honorary Award Ceremony where he received the Academic Personality Award.
Solomon expressed appreciation for his project supervisor, who mentored him on his research titled: “Breed Differences in Fear Behaviour and Cognitive Abilities in Three Breeds of Broiler Chickens.”
He also credited his supervisors for training him in bioinformatics, equipping him with expertise in MEGA, DNAsp, electrophoresis, and qPCR.
Solomon commended the university for its commitment to academic excellence and affordable tuition fees, acknowledging the role of FUNAAB’s supportive academic community in shaping his success.
He extended heartfelt appreciation to his fellow students, friends, alumni, and the student body for their encouragement throughout his academic journey.
In his closing remarks, Solomon encouraged his classmates to pursue their goals with determination, emphasizing that hard work, resilience, and consistency always yield success.
