AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian man named Oladipupo Samuel has graduated with outstanding distinction from Lagos State University (LASU), earning a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) with a first-class grade of 4.66 CGPA out of a possible 5.00.
Samuel, who had no grade lower than a B across the 65 courses he took, began his academic journey with a perfect GPA of 5.00 and also concluded his final semester with a perfect GPA.
His remarkable performance earned him three notable awards during his graduation, including two different prizes: of Honourable Justice Taslim Olawale Elias Award for best performing student, Customary Law and Nigerian Legal System, and the Honourable Bode Olawale Rhodes-Vivour Award for Best Performing Student in Project and Dissertation.
In an interview with Scholarship Region, Samuel shared that he decided to study Law at the age of 8, inspired by Sunny Odunwo, a respected lawyer and former Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State Governor.

”His lifestyle deeply influenced Samuel, and he associated his success and character with the legal profession, which sparked his enduring interest in studying law,” he said.
Samuel described his journey into LASU’s Faculty of Law as divinely orchestrated, noting that although the path had its challenges, his faith and determination kept him grounded.
”One particularly memorable experience was when I served as the Bar President of my faculty, during which I organized remarkable programs that impacted the lives of over 300 students nationwide,” he said.
Beyond academics, Samuel was an active participant in extracurricular activities and politics in school. He held several leadership positions ranging from the faculty level to the school level and even at the national level.
Some of the leadership positions he held include the Ambassador/Team Lead, Federation of African Law Students, National Justice, Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), and Spokesperson, Student Advocates’ Association (SAA-LASU).
Samuel was also the Chairman, Gani Fawehinmi Students’ Chamber Electoral Committee, Pioneer Public Relations Officer, Tech Savvy Law, LASU, and Honourable Member, LASUSU Academics and Tutorial Committee.
His active contribution and leadership earned him notable awards, including the Best Advocate, Faculty of Law, 2023, Best Advocate, Gani Fawehinmi Students Chambers, Executive of the Year, Student Advocates Association, LASU, and Best GFSCite, Gani Fawehinmi Students Chambers, Lagos State University.
He also interned at several top law firms, including Banwo & Ighodalo, G. Elias, J.O. Fabunmi & Co., and AA&G Legal, gaining hands-on experience in legal practice.
In addition, he co-founded a writing business known as Research Hub and was awarded four scholarships during his undergraduate studies.
Balancing leadership, academic excellence, and entrepreneurship was not easy, but Samuel credits his success to God’s grace, along with determination, discipline, and focus. He expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to his success in one way or the other.
“My deepest gratitude goes to my mum and aunt for their unwavering support, as well as to my mentors for their invaluable guidance. I am also grateful to the many friends who have become like brothers and sisters, and to all well-wishers who stood by me,” Samuel said.
He also credited himself for remaining steadfast throughout the academic journey. As he looks ahead, Samuel remains confident about his future and the path God has prepared for him.
‘The future is not uncertain. I’m eager to know the next phase of my life and what God has for me,” he said. To young aspiring law students and graduates, he shared an inspiring message:
“One truth I’ve come to realize is that everyone has a life to live and a purpose to fulfill. Find what works for you—the area of law you truly want to pursue, and if not law, then whatever path speaks to your heart. Chase your dream like your life depends on it. And most importantly, hold on to God—you will need Him.
