AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian man named Victory Henry-Ojating has earned the prestigious Chevening Scholarship to pursue his master’s degree in the United Kingdom, fully funded.
Victory began his academic journey at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology in 2022.
During his graduation, he stood out not just for completing his degree, but for graduating among the top 1% of his class. His project dissertation was graded at a remarkable 91%, and his academic excellence earned him a special Scholarship Prize Award from Nicky Okoye Enterprises Development.
Victory was also recognized by the Vice Chancellor as one of the best graduating students in his department. After graduating, he remained committed to excellence.

His outstanding record helped him win the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, a highly competitive award offered by the UK government to exceptional individuals around the world.
He shared the exciting news on LinkedIn, describing it as a dream come true. “In my wildest dreams, I imagined this moment. I nurtured it. Now I live in it.” he said.
The Chevening Scholarship is fully-funded scholarship by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom for outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK.

Out of over 65,000 applicants from more than 160 countries and nearly 7,000 from Nigeria alone, Victory secured the award on his first attempt, a feat achieved by less than 0.3% of candidates.
In recent years, Victory shared that he has worked within the food industry, focusing on innovative scientific solutions to global food challenges. He has been passionate about product development and improving nutrition for people and the planet through sustainable food systems.
Victory looks forward to joining the School of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Leeds, which is ranked first in the UK for graduate studies in Food Sciences.
He will be pursuing a master’s degree in Food Science and Nutrition, fully funded by what he describes as his “dream scholarship.” Victory emphasized that his journey has not been a stroke of luck, but a result of faith, perseverance, and hard work.
He expressed deep gratitude to the Chevening Awards, the University of Leeds, and the UK in Nigeria for the opportunity to not just study in the UK, but also represent Nigeria as a UK ambassador.
Victory also thanked his mentors, colleagues, line managers, friends, and family for standing by him and playing a part in making his dream of a world-class education a reality.
