A determined Nigerian man named Miracle Jude , has achieved a remarkable milestone by graduating with a first-class degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Benin, Nigeria.
Miracle, who earned an outstanding cumulative grade point average of 4.74 out of 5.00, overcame immense financial and personal challenges to achieve his dream.
Sharing his journey on LinkedIn, Miracle reflected on his transformation from a disadvantaged boy to a first-class graduate. ”Eight years ago, if someone had told me I would earn a First-Class degree in Engineering, I would have laughed uncontrollably,” he wrote.

Growing up in a less-staffed, under-resourced public school, Miracle lacked access to qualified science teachers. Despite this, he taught himself advanced subjects like calculus and further mathematics, preparing for his WAEC and JAMB exams with minimal guidance.
The situation worsened when his father lost his job while he was still in secondary school, leaving Miracle to work after school hours to afford textbooks.
University life brought its own set of difficulties. Miracle battled depression during his second and third years due to lost opportunities and financial struggles. In his final year, the intense pressure of academics took a toll on his health.
Despite these challenges, Miracle excelled, consistently maintaining his first-class status throughout his university years.
He stated that his academic journey was marked by outstanding accomplishments, including leadership roles, academic contributions, sports achievements, internships, and mentorships.
He was elected as the director of finance for the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE), UNIBEN Chapter (2021/2022), where he organized impactful tutorials, orientation programs, and seminars like the “360 Chemical Engineer” webinar featuring industry experts.
Miracle was also appointed as the Team Lead Tutor at Che-Archive, UNIBEN, where he organized resources and tutorials for fellow students. He also assisted in establishing the AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers) chapter at UNIBEN, creating global opportunities for students.
He secured an internship at 7UP Bottling Company, gaining practical experience in his field, and was a two-time gold medalist in the HOD Cup (2021 and 2023) and first runner-up in the LUMIX Cup at the Faculty of Engineering.
Miracle credited his success to God, his resilient parents (especially his mother), his siblings, and supportive friends. Advising those who might be facing challenges, he encourages them to persevere through challenges, reminding them that they too can overcome obstacles.
