Nigeria’s new President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerges one of the 100 most influential people in the world

The President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has won the United State’s TIME Magazine award as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Nigeria, the most populous black nation in the world elected Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his first-ever attempt to become the country’s President after being a major political stakeholder that saw the return of democracy to the country in 1999.

TIME Magazine in its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world recognised Bola Ahmed Tinubu as one of the 20 most influential leaders in the world in 2023.

The list categorised individuals into pioneers, leaders, titans, artists, innovators, and icons with President Joe Biden of the United States, Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, Brazil President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva among others also listed.

According to TIME Magazine, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 Presidential elections was no easy feat. “Winning an election in Africa’s most populous country is no easy feat,” the magazine stated.

It further explained that the newly elected President had nearly 20 years to prepare for the elections.

“Nigeria’s newly elected President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has had nearly two decades to prepare. Called Jagaban, or “leader of the warriors,” by his supporters, the now 71-year-old ran in a presidential election for the first time this March,” the magazine stated.
