AFRICA | A brilliant 13-year-old student, Rhema-Love Abraham, has emerged as the overall winner of the 2025 Heirs Insurance Essay Championship, defeating over 5,000 contestants from across Nigeria.
Rhema-Love, who attends Precepts Learning Field, Lagos, showcased exceptional writing and analytical skills that impressed the judges.
Her essay, centered on “The Role of Insurance in Keeping Families Safe and Secure,” earned her a ₦5 million scholarship and a ₦1 million grant for her school.
Rhema-Love's Story and How She Did It
Her victory was something Rhema worked towards. According to the organisers, the competition began months earlier with thousands of entries from junior secondary school students nationwide.
After multiple screening rounds and assessments, Rhema-Love’s essay stood out for its originality, depth, and clear understanding of how insurance plays a crucial role in family protection and financial stability.
The Heirs Insurance Essay Championship, now in its fourth edition, was created to promote financial literacy and academic excellence among young Nigerians.

The 2025 edition saw a record number of participants, with submissions reviewed by a distinguished panel of academic professionals, and the results independently verified by Deloitte & Touche, ensuring a fair and credible process.
At the grand finale, Niyi Onifade, Sector Head of Heirs Insurance Group, praised all the students for their creativity and determination, reaffirming the Group’s commitment to youth development.
