AMERICA | A brilliant young boy named Sebastian Joinville, has made history as the first Black valedictorian to graduate from Yulee High School, Florida, United States.
Sebastian achieved this remarkable milestone after completing his senior year with a perfect 4.00 grade point average — all while balancing academics with a demanding athletic career.
Sebastian's Story and How He Did It
In 2023, Sebastian was officially named valedictorian of his graduating class, earning recognition as the overall best student academically.
Graduating at the top of his class with a flawless GPA is an accomplishment on its own — but making history as the first Black valedictorian in the school’s history makes it even more significant.
Sebastian’s excellence extended far beyond academics. He was a standout soccer player for the Yulee Hornets, he was widely recognized as a “red-hot” striker and All-Star athlete.
During his senior season, he helped lead the team to its first-ever state semifinal appearance in 2023, was among Florida’s top stat leaders in Class 4A and scored crucial goals in the regional finals and semifinals.

Sebastian was known for his ability to skillfully use both feet. Standing at 6’0″, he primarily played as a forward. His leadership and athletic performance played a major role in the team’s history.
Adding to his senior-year achievements, he was also crowned Prom King — a reflection of his popularity and leadership among peers.
After high school, Sebastian was accepted into the University of Florida, where he is currently majoring in Biology on a pre-med track.
He aspires to become an orthopedic surgeon, a goal that aligns with his discipline, academic excellence, and passion for performance science.
At university, Sebastian continues to maintain high academic standards while representing the institution in various competitions and activities.
