An exceptional Nigerian man known as Great Nkor has risen above all his challenges to become a Bachelor’s Degree holder at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), South West, Nigeria.
Great Nkor who was involved in a fire accident while he was a kid suffered lots of injuries which made him go through 17 surgeries in South Africa.
After the fire incident which left series of scars on him, most notably his face, Great Nkor suffered several mental stress as a result of his looks coupled with financial setbacks of his parent.
In 2009, MTN – one of the leading telecommunications company in Nigeria, contacted his parent, offering to support him through several surgeries and educational support. He was flied out to South Africa, where he had about 17 surgeries fully sponsored by MTN to fix the scars.
MTN Nigeria awards a yearly scholarship award to Nigerian Undergraduates, supporting every choosen undergraduate with a sum of N200,000 every year until graduation. The Scholarship Award for 2021 was announced in July and closed in August 2021. Applications for it are expected to be reopened by July 2022.

Great Nkor benefitted a lot from the MTN Foundation Scholarships and was proud to announce that he had completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Product Design from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
He posted a picture on his Linkedin with the caption: “A degree hotter, All thanks to the Almighty”. In a video produced by MTN, Great Nkor and his parent tells his story and how he has become “Great” just like his name. (Watch the Video below)
