A brilliant young Nigerian lady, Princess Sopeju, has achieved remarkable success in the United States after earning a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at just 20 years old from Suffolk University.
Her story reflects a bold journey of ambition, courage, and academic excellence that began when she left Nigeria alone as a teenager to pursue her dreams abroad.
Princess' Story and How She Did It
At just 17 years old, Princess boarded a one-way flight from Nigeria to the United States with only a suitcase and a vision for a better future.
Leaving behind family, familiarity, and comfort at such a young age came with emotional and academic challenges, but she remained determined to succeed.
Upon arriving in the United States, she began her studies at Suffolk University, where she pursued a degree in Computer Science.
Over the next three and a half years, she distinguished herself not only academically but also through leadership, professional development, and involvement in major technology programs and conferences.

While studying, Princess actively sought opportunities that sharpened her technical skills and expose her to global networks in technology and engineering.
One of those milestones was attending the Harvard WECode Conference at Harvard University, one of the largest conferences for women in technology and engineering.
She attended the conference twice through the support of Rewriting the Code, where she connected with other young women in tech, gained valuable career insights, and learned from experienced professionals in the industry.
Princess’ growing passion for software engineering also earned her acceptance into the Bloomberg Accelerator Summer School (BASS), a highly competitive program led by Bloomberg Engineering.
Through the program, she gained deeper exposure to technical interview preparation, data structures and algorithms, problem-solving techniques, and software engineering culture within top technology companies.
As she continued building her technical experience, Princess secured another major milestone when she became a Software Development Intern at Amazon in the Amazon Devices Demand Planning Department.
That internship experience eventually opened the door to an even greater achievement. Now, at just 20 years old, Princess has graduated with her Computer Science degree and officially begun working full-time as a Software Engineer at Amazon’s Devices team in Seattle.
Her accomplishment is especially remarkable considering everything happened within just three and a half years of relocating from Nigeria as a teenager.
Reflecting on her journey, Princess shared how unbelievable the transformation feels when she remembers the young girl who boarded that flight years ago with uncertainty about the future.
“17 years old. One suitcase. A one-way flight from Nigeria.Three and a half years later: B.S. in Computer Science, Graduated at 20 and Full-time Software Engineer at Amazon,” she said.
If you had told the girl boarding that flight that this would be her reality today, she wouldn’t have believed you,” Princess added.
She also expressed gratitude to God, her family, friends, ColorStack, and Rewriting the Code for supporting and believing in her throughout the journey.
“The journey is just beginning,” she said.
