A determined man named Lolo Mario Resurreccion has proven that it is never too late to pursue your dreams, as he returned to high school at the age of 77 and is now on track to achieve his lifelong goal of earning a college degree.
His journey is a strong reflection of lifelong learning and scholarly determination. Returning to school after decades requires not just courage, but discipline, adaptability, and a genuine passion for knowledge.
Despite his age, Mario has embraced the demands of academic life, proving that education is not limited by time.
Mario's Story and How He Did It
Mario, who is from Solana, Cagayan in the Philippines, is currently a Grade 12 student at Sampaguita National High School.
He is enrolled in the Agri-Fishery Arts program under the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) track—an academic path that equips students with practical and technical skills in agriculture and fisheries, making his pursuit both educational and livelihood-focused.
But the academic journey has not been easy. As an adult learner, he faces challenges such as physical fatigue, managing study time, and keeping up with academic tasks alongside much younger classmates.

However, he has remained consistent and focused, refusing to let these obstacles stop him, and his determination has made him stand out.
Mario has become a source of inspiration not only to his fellow students, many of whom are young enough to be his grandchildren, but also to his teachers, who admire his positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and commitment to self-improvement.
But for Mario, this is just the beginning. Beyond earning his high school certificate, he plans to continue his education by enrolling in college.
Mario’s goal is to use the knowledge and skills he has gained to improve his livelihood and contribute meaningfully to his community, particularly in agriculture and fisheries.
