AMERICA | An exceptional African American named Aiden Wilkins of Collegeville, Pennsylvania, has made history as the youngest student ever to attend Ursinus College.
At the school, he is taking neuroscience classes with the hope of graduating as a pediatric neurosurgeon, using his gifts to help children like himself.
Aiden's Story and How She Did It
Aiden’s brilliance was evident from a very early stage. At the age of 2, he was already reading traffic signs while other toddlers were just learning to string words together.
His mother, Veronica Wilkins, noticed his extraordinary ability to grasp concepts far beyond his age.
And by age three, Aiden was watching anatomy videos and developing a fascination with the human brain. That early curiosity grew into passion, and by the time he reached high school sophomore level at Reach Cyber Charter School, he was ready for university.
After excelling in a benchmark test, Aiden told his mother he wanted to try university. Together, they researched colleges nearby and found Ursinus College, Pennsylvania, a small institution known for its strong academics and supportive environment.
Now, three days a week, Aiden attends neuroscience classes on campus, learning alongside students twice his age. The rest of the week, he studies virtually as a senior high school student.
Even in the university, he remains exceptional that professors and students are impressed not just by his ability to discuss complex topics, but also by his enthusiasm and curiosity.
“The reason why I want to be a pediatric neurosurgeon is mainly because I like helping kids around my age,” Aiden said.
For him, it’s not just about mastering science; it is about making a difference in children’s lives, especially those living with neurodisabilities.
Aiden’s mother, Veronica, said her son’s accomplishments are entirely self-driven.“I’m extremely proud of Aiden because it’s all him. It’s all organic. I’m just behind the scenes, and he goes for what he wants,” she said.
She also shared that witnessing his journey inspires her daily. “It’s exciting because he’s making history, and you know he feels great. I think it’s so important to be seen and heard,” he said.
Despite his extraordinary abilities, Aiden is still very much a 9-year-old. He enjoys gaming, playing soccer, and spending time with friends. He balances rigorous learning with the simple joys of childhood.
