A determined 90-year-old woman named Helen Woodyard is proving that it is never too late to pursue education, as she continues to drive herself to class while working toward earning her diploma in the United States.

Helen's Story and How She Did It
Helen’s academic journey began at the age of 88 when she enrolled at West Georgia Technical College to pursue her GED (General Educational Development), an alternative qualification to a high school diploma.
Inspired by watching her children complete their own education, she decided it was time to fulfill her own dream, starting from the very beginning.
From the onset, Helen approached her studies with discipline and commitment. Three times a week, she drives herself to attend classes, and every night, she studies to keep up with her coursework.
Her consistency and dedication reflect the same academic discipline expected of any student, regardless of age.
For Helen, adjusting to the classroom after decades was not without challenges. She had to learn how to use modern tools such as scientific calculators and computer-based systems, skills she had never been exposed to before.

Yet, with the support of her instructors at West Georgia Technical College, she gradually built confidence and mastery.
Interestingly, she developed a strong interest in Mathematics, turning what could have been a difficult subject into her favorite area of study.

She hopes to become a teacher, using her experience to help other adults, especially older individuals, learn how to read and write. Her vision is to turn her personal achievement into a tool for community impact.
