A brilliant young lady named Maya Blasingame has emerged as the best graduating student of Spelman College, United States.
Maya Blasingame obtained her bachelor of science degree in Biology at Spelman College, the prestigious all-women Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)in Atlanta, Georgia United States.
Maya was awarded one of the four black valedictorians of the university’s 2023 graduating class. She was an active student on and off campus and served as a dedicated member of the Spelman Minority Association for Pre-Medical Students.
According to the Spelman College website, Maya was also a member of the Department of Defense Academic Scholars Program and the Spelman College LINCS Program.

Maya was a Morehouse School of Medicine Undergraduate Health Sciences Academy Scholar. She is also a Spelman biology department student researcher where she conducted bioinformatics research with Yonas Tekle, Ph.D.
Her commitment to excellence in research is demonstrated by the work she co-authored in the Scientific Reports Journal.
Maya also served as a co-communication chairwoman for The Blue Record Podcast and as an intern for “In Those Genes,” an award-winning podcast hosted by Spelman alumni.

Maya said she will be taking up medicine as she is already on a pre-medical track and she has enrolled in the Duke University Medical School with the hope of being a physician someday.
At Spelman College, she was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, Beta Biological Sciences Honors Society, Beta Kappa Chi Honors Society, Minority Association of Premedical Students Parliamentarian, and Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society.
Maya also hosted the Blue Record Podcast, was a member of the Lady Buds Mentoring Program, was a Student Ambassador, and was a member of Sisters Keeping It Real Through Service Publicity Team
Maya said that she hopes to not only practice as a physician but to serve underrepresented populations and advocate for those who are not always seen and heard within the medical community.
