A brilliant young lady named Sulaiman Nafisat has achieved remarkable success, earning a Master’s degree in Mathematical Engineering from the University of L’Aquila in Italy.
Her achievement, which is one of 13-year academic journey, is a powerful story of determination, focus, and resilience—one that proves that success is not always a straight path.
Nafisat's Story and How She Did It
Nafisat began her academic journey at the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, where she earned her Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Statistics in 2014 with an upper credit.
She continued to build on this foundation, completing her Higher National Diploma (HND) in 2017, also with an upper credit.
During her time at the polytechnic, she developed a strong interest in data, mathematics, and analytical thinking. At that stage, the path ahead was not always clear, but she remained committed to improving herself step by step.
In 2019, through persistence and hard work, Nafisat gained admission into Ahmadu Bello University via a special admission programme to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics. This transition marked a major turning point in her academic journey.
Studying at ABU strengthened her analytical skills, deepened her understanding of probability and data analysis, and prepared her for greater academic challenges. It also reinforced an important lesson, progress takes time, and every stage matters.
Her journey later took an international turn when she moved to Italy to pursue a Master’s degree in Mathematical Engineering at the University of L’Aquila.
Studying in a global academic environment exposed her to advanced mathematical concepts, engineering applications, and research methodologies. It also pushed her to adapt, think critically, and collaborate across diverse cultures.
For her thesis, Nafisat worked on “Game Theory on Graphs,” where she explored how cooperative behavior can improve efficiency in public bicycle-sharing systems. Her research focused on using mathematical models to solve real-world problems, particularly in urban mobility and resource allocation.
After years of dedication, sacrifices, and continuous growth, she successfully completed her Master’s degree, marking a proud milestone in her 13-year academic journey.
Reflecting on her journey, Nafisat emphasized that success is not about how fast you go, but how consistent you are:
“No beginning is too small, and no dream is too big. Every stage of life prepares you for the next opportunity,”she said.
Now, as she steps into the next phase of her career, she is open to opportunities in data analysis, research, and operations, ready to apply her knowledge to real-world challenges and continue growing professionally.
