A brilliant Nigerian lady named Priscilla Agada has turned an early setback into an inspiring success story after earning a First-Class degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos with an outstanding 4.86/5.00 CGPA.
Her story is a powerful reminder that delays are not denials. With discipline, resilience, and faith, even the toughest setbacks can lead to extraordinary success.
Priscilla'S Story and How She Did It
Priscilla’s journey began with a major challenge. Despite her academic brilliance, she was denied university admission at age 15 because she did not meet the minimum age requirement set by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which requires candidates to be at least 16 years old.
While many would feel discouraged, Priscilla chose to stay focused and patient, waiting an extra year before finally gaining admission into UNILAG in 2020.
Her time at the university was not without challenges. What should have been a four-year program stretched into six years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ASUU strikes.
Yet, through every delay, Priscilla remained consistent, maintaining academic excellence and eventually graduating in 2026 among the top 2% of her class. “This is more than a degree — it’s a testament to consistency, faith, and hard work,” she shared on LinkedIn.
Beyond her impressive CGPA, Priscilla built a well-rounded and outstanding portfolio. Priscilla completed ICAN professional exams in 200 level and won the best graduating award in Public Sector Accounting.
Her excellence earned her prestigious recognitions and opportunities, including the MRS Oil Nigeria Plc Scholarship and the Federal Government of Nigeria Scholarship.
Priscilla also gained valuable industry experience through internships with Gbenga Badejo & Co. (Chartered Accountants), SIAO Partners, Hexavia, Bank of America (Global Markets Operations), Aztran Global, and Afrinvest (West Africa) Limited (Research Team).
Priscilla was equally active outside the classroom. She represented UNILAG at the CFA Institute Equity Research Challenge 2025 and emerged as the National Champion
She was also the Treasurer, NUASA UNILAG (2023/2024), an Executive Board Member & Head of HR, The Investment Society UNILAG, and she Co-led welfare team for The Colloquium 2025 (the largest student finance conference in Sub-Saharan Africa).
Reflecting on her journey, Priscilla advised young students to remain steadfast in their pursuit of earning a first-class degree. “Don’t let anyone tell you a First Class is impossible. If you can dream it and you’re willing to put in the work, you can achieve it,” she shared.
