A brilliant Nigerian lady named Divine-Favour Mokwunye has achieved remarkable success, finally earning her bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology from the University of Ibadan after ten years of long academic journey filled with setbacks and persistence.
Despite facing repeated rejections and delays, she remained committed to her education, eventually graduating and being inducted into the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), a professional body that recognizes expertise and competence in her field.
Mokwunye's Story and How She Did It
Mokwunye’s journey began in 2016 after completing her secondary school education. Like many students, she was confident of gaining admission immediately after writing JAMB. However, that expectation quickly turned into a long and challenging process.
She wrote JAMB four different times before finally securing admission in 2019 to study Food Technology at the University of Ibadan, the exact course she had always wanted. But even after gaining admission, the journey was far from over.
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted academic calendars, delaying her resumption until 2021.
When she eventually started university, she encountered a new reality. The course she expected to be purely science-based required adapting to a broader and more technical academic structure under the Faculty of Technology.

Her early years in school were particularly difficult. During her first and second years, Mokwunye struggled academically and often felt uncertain about her path. It was a period filled with doubt and adjustment, testing her confidence and commitment.
However, things began to change in her third year. She gradually found her footing, improving both academically and personally.
Through consistency and determination, she worked her way up from a 2.06 CGPA in her first year to a final CGPA of 2.96 on a 4.00 scale, and eventually graduated with a Second Class Honours (Lower Division).
In February 2026, she reached another milestone as she was officially inducted into the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), marking her transition from a student to a recognized professional in her field.
Reflecting on her journey on LinkedIn, she described it as one filled with struggles, lessons, failures, and victories, all of which shaped her into who she is today.
