After graduating with a Management degree, this lady returns to school and earns double first-class in Law

A brilliant young woman, Chipuruime Obiagwu-Udeh, has achieved an extraordinary academic milestone after returning to school to study Law and graduating with double First-Class honours, following an earlier First-Class degree in Business Administration.

Her journey is a powerful story of academic consistency, discipline, and a deliberate pursuit of excellence across two demanding disciplines—Management and Law.

Chipuruime's Story and How She Did It

Chipuruime began her higher academic journey at Imo State University (IMSU), where she enrolled for a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

Through dedication and strong academic performance, she graduated with First-Class honours, setting an early foundation of excellence in her educational path.

Rather than stopping there, she made a bold decision to return to the same institution in 2017 to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), marking the beginning of a new academic challenge in a completely different field.

Law is widely regarded as one of the most rigorous academic disciplines, requiring critical thinking, deep research, and consistent reading. Despite the demands of the programme, she maintained her commitment to excellence throughout her studies.

In 2022, she graduated with another First-Class degree in Law, successfully maintaining her outstanding academic record across two separate fields of study.

As required for legal practice in Nigeria, Chipuruime proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, where she underwent intensive professional training designed to prepare law graduates for legal practice.

In 2023, she graduated from the Law School with First-Class honours once again, completing what can be described as a “double First-Class” academic achievement in Law.

Following her graduation, she was called to the Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, formally beginning her professional journey in the legal field.

Reflecting on her academic journey, Chipuruime described her journey as one shaped by consistency, faith, and intentional effort.

She noted that she initially had an interest in studying both Accounting and Law, and was eventually able to merge her academic interests through determination and focus.

She also shared insights into her approach to success at the Nigerian Law School, explaining that she treated the programme like a sprint beginning with the same intensity she intended to finish with.

Additionally, she avoided last-minute preparation and instead maintained consistent study habits from the beginning of the programme, combining hard work with strategic learning and discipline.

She emphasized the importance of starting early, staying consistent, and maintaining focus throughout the academic year, noting that steady effort over time was key to her performance.

Chipuruime also credited her lecturers at Imo State University for instilling strong research and study habits, which she carried into her legal education. She highlighted the importance of attending lectures, paying attention, and engaging deeply with academic materials beyond surface-level understanding.

In addition, she attributed her success to faith, noting that spiritual grounding played an important role in her academic journey.

For students aspiring to achieve similar academic excellence, she encouraged intentional study habits, curiosity beyond classroom teaching, and the use of multiple learning resources such as books, lectures, and academic discussions.

She also stressed the importance of balance—advising students to manage their time effectively, prioritize rest, maintain healthy routines, and still make room for social life, as these factors contribute to better focus and retention.

Looking ahead, Chipuruime expressed her desire to fully dedicate herself to the legal profession, stating that law is a field she deeply loves and intends to practice actively.
