AFRICA | A 47-year-old woman, Dee-Shawn, has fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse after earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Norfolk State University (NSU), proving that it is never too late to start over.
Dee-Shawn’s journey to this achievement took several turns before reaching this milestone.
Dee-Shawn's Story and How She Did It
She worked as a security officer for 12 years, beginning in 2010, before transitioning into a probation officer role in 2022. Despite building a stable career, she felt called to pursue nursing and made the bold decision to return to school and begin again.
However, Nursing school came with its own challenges. Dee-shawn had to balance academic demands with personal responsibilities, which tested her resilience, but she refused to give up.
Sharing her journey on Threads, Dee-Shawn admitted that the program stretched her in many ways, yet she persevered and eventually graduated in 2026, earning her nursing degree.
