An exceptional young boy named Oluwadamilare Ezra Lawal, has achieved remarkable success after being selected as one of only eight winners worldwide of the prestigious John M. Belk Scholarship at Davidson College.
His achievement stands out not just for its prestige, but for its rarity, he was chosen from thousands of applicants across the globe, earning a place among an elite group of scholars.
Ezra's Story and How He Did It
Ezra, a senior at Hiram High School in the United States, began building his path to excellence early by combining strong academics with meaningful impact beyond the classroom.
As part of the rigorous selection process, Ezra and other finalists were flown to North Carolina, where they participated in several days of interviews, leadership activities, and assessments.
Out of this highly competitive pool, only eight students were ultimately selected, and Ezra emerged as one of them.
The John M. Belk Scholarship is one of the most competitive undergraduate scholarships in the United States. It provides full funding for four years, covering tuition, acommodation, meals, academic fees and personal stipend.
Altogether, the scholarship is valued at over $400,000, making it a life-changing opportunity for its recipients.
Ezra’s success was not based on academics alone. He built a well-rounded and impactful profile that demonstrated leadership, initiative, and a commitment to service.
At just 15 years old, he founded ShockResQ, a nonprofit organization focused on disaster relief, an initiative that highlights both his innovation and his desire to make a difference in real-world situations.
In addition, he has shown a strong interest in public health and community service. He interned at West Atlanta Pediatrics, gaining practical exposure to healthcare.
Ezra also participated in the Governor’s Honors Program, a prestigious academic enrichment program for high-achieving students.
His journey reflects true scholarly excellence, combining intellectual ability, leadership, and real-world impact. These are the qualities top global scholarships look for, and Ezra exemplified them.
Being selected as one of only eight scholars globally is not just an academic achievement—it is recognition of his potential to lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to society.
