A brilliant young lady from Zimbabwe named Vee Kativhu has achieved another major academic milestone, earning her PhD in Education and Urban Leadership from Claremont Graduate University in the United States.
Her latest achievement follows a remarkable academic journey that includes graduating from the University of Oxford and Harvard University, making her one of the most inspiring young voices in global education.
Vee’s story is one of resilience, self-belief, and breaking barriers despite discouragement early in her academic journey.
Vee's Story and How She Did It
Growing up in Zimbabwe, Vee once revealed that, a high school teacher once told her not to apply to Oxford, suggesting she was “not good enough” for such an opportunity.
“Five years ago my teacher told me I shouldn’t even bother applying to Oxford… because I wasn’t ‘good enough,’” she shared.
Despite that, she remained determined and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History from Oxford University, followed by a Master’s degree in International Education Policy from Harvard University during the global pandemic.
After her masters studies, she secured a PhD scholarship at Claremont Graduate University, and in 2024, she began her doctoral studies. There, she focused her research on Black women’s experiences in higher education and how universities can better support and retain them.

Along the line, she also made history as one of the youngest recipients of an honorary doctorate from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom.
Reflecting on her journey, Vee shared that her success is rooted in years of sacrifice, discipline, and unwavering belief in her purpose.
“From leaving Zimbabwe, to learning English, to being told I wasn’t good enough… to Oxford, Harvard, and now a PhD at 28. What a journey,” she wrote.
She also expressed gratitude for her late father, noting how deeply she wished he could witness her achievements.
Beyond the titles, Vee’s work continues to focus on empowering girls and women in education, ensuring their voices are heard and their experiences are reflected in policy and academic spaces.
