Despite giving birth while a student, this young lady defies odds to earn Chemistry degree with honors

A determined young woman named Mujeebah Kemisola Hamzat, has defied the odds to earn a degree in Chemistry with Second Class Upper honors from Ekiti State University, Nigeria, despite the challenges of motherhood during her academic journey.

Kemisola’s story is one of resilience, strength, and unwavering determination in the face of life’s unexpected challenges.

Kemisola's Story and How She Did It

She began her academic journey at EKSU with high hopes of making her family proud. Alongside her studies, she engaged in small businesses such as selling clothes, underwear, and snacks to support herself financially.

Her dedication paid off, as she performed excellently in her academics. In her first year, she even contested in a departmental beauty pageant and emerged winner, not just for her appearance, but for her intelligence.

However, her journey took an unexpected turn in her second semester when she became pregnant. Feeling disappointed at first, she found strength and support in her grandmother, who stood firmly by her and encouraged her to keep the baby.

During a three-month academic strike in her second year, Kemisola gave birth to her daughter. When school resumed, she returned, not just as a student, but as a mother.
