A brilliant young lady named Amina Atohunse, has achieved outstanding academic success by graduating with a first-class degree in Geography from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
She also emerged as the Best Graduating Student in her department, marking a remarkable milestone in her academic journey. Her story is one of consistency, discipline, and quiet determination.
Amina's Story and How She Did It
Amina began her journey at the University of Ibadan in 2021, and over the course of four years, she remained focused on her goals.
Through dedication and hard work, she maintained excellent academic performance, eventually graduating in 2025 at the top of her class. But her success was not limited to academics alone.
While studying, Amina actively took on leadership roles and participated in several extracurricular activities.
She served as Vice President of the Department of Geography during the 2023/2024 academic session and also chaired the NUGSA Education Development Committee, contributing to student development and academic support initiatives.

Her intellectual strength also shone through competitions and research. She won the FATSSSA Press Essay Competition (2024) with her work on “AI and Governance:
Is AI a Blessing or a Curse to Good Governance?” and participated in other academic contests, including the Afrocover Essay Competition.
As a researcher, her final year project focused on Urban Encroachment into Agricultural Lands, reflecting her interest in environmental sustainability, spatial analysis, and population dynamics.
She is particularly passionate about using geospatial technologies and artificial intelligence to address environmental and governance challenges in Africa.
Reflecting on her journey, Amina admitted that it wasn’t always easy. There were moments of doubt and times she considered giving up. However, she remained consistent and kept pushing forward, even when no one was watching.
According to her, success is not accidental. It comes from grace, consistency, and the decision to keep going despite challenges.
She expressed deep gratitude to her family, mentors, and support system, who stood by her throughout the journey, helping her stay grounded and focused.
Now, as she steps into a new phase, Amina is ready to explore opportunities, connect with like-minded individuals, and make a meaningful impact through geospatial and environmental research.
