AFRICA | A young African woman named Jasmine Tekyi-Acheampong has made history in her family after graduating with a First-Class Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Ghana School of Law and later being called to the Ghana Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana.
Her journey is one marked by determination, emotional resilience, and an unshakable commitment to excellence.
Jasmine's Story and How She Did It
Jasmine’s academic story began at the University of Ghana School of Law(UGSoL), where she pursued her LLB with high hopes but soon discovered the path ahead would be demanding, intense, and deeply transformative.
Reflecting on her journey, she describes it as one filled with “excitement, pain, anxiety, depression, hard work, but brought to a glorious end only by the power, mercies, and grace of God.”
From her early days as an LLB student, Jasmine learned quickly that intelligence alone would not be enough. She shares five key lessons that shaped her journey:

1. Hard Work Is Everything
At UGSoL, every student arrives with strong academic records. But Jasmine soon realized that success in Law School requires hours of reading, briefing cases, understanding principles, and putting in far more work than past achievements could prepare her for.
2. Get Involved Beyond the Classroom
Her growth extended beyond academics. Jasmine joined the University of Ghana Debate Society, won the “My Intellectual Property Law” Debate Competition Africa as Winner and Best Oralist, and excelled in the Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah Inter-Firm Moot Court Competition.
By her fourth year, she became the Head of the Moot and Advocacy Society — experiences that sharpened her legal reasoning and strengthened her leadership skills.
3. The Power of a Good Circle
Jasmine credits her friends and colleagues for pushing her toward excellence. Group discussions, shared perspectives, and collaborative learning helped her understand cases and legal principles more deeply.
4. Master Time Management
With countless readings and limited time, she learned the importance of planning, avoiding procrastination, and staying ahead of weekly coursework.
5. Hold On to Faith
The emotional pressure of Law School led her to rely heavily on her faith.
“You can plan, read, memorize — but things can still go wayward. You must have an anchor,” she said, sharing how Habakkuk 2:3 became her strength during difficult moments.
After successfully completing her LLB, Jasmine proceeded to the Ghana School of Law, where she went through rigorous training before finally being called to the Ghana Bar.
This moment was historic as she became the first lawyer in her family, a breakthrough she carries with deep pride and gratitude. “I carry with me a deep sense of pride and purpose and an assurance that hard work pays off, eventually,” Jasmine said.
”As I step into this new chapter, I am excited to see the greatness ahead of me. Most importantly, it is my desire to leave behind a lasting impact that will influence generations yet to come,” she added.
