This young Lady earned masters degree in Engineering with distinction at US university, wins multiple awards

A brilliant Nigerian lady named Idongesit Ansa has achieved an outstanding academic milestone by earning a Master’s degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering with distinction from West Virginia University in the United States.

Ansa's Story and How She Did It

Ansa began her academic journey at the University of Uyo, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering with honors in 2019. Two years later, in 2022, she proceeded to West Virginia University to pursue her master’s degree.

In 2023, she completed her journey with an exceptional 4.00/4.00 distinction grade. Sharing her achievement on LinkedIn, Ansa described the moment as a major milestone in her academic growth.

Ansa shared that her master’s program exposed her to diverse and advanced areas of the field, including Carbon Capture and Storage (CCUS), reservoir engineering and simulation, as well as machine learning.

For her thesis, she developed an AI-based proxy model designed to predict pressure distribution of injected CO₂ at the Illinois Decatur (IBDP) storage site — a project that reflects her technical depth and innovative thinking.

Her journey was further decorated with several prestigious recognitions. Ansa earned the Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering (PNGE) Academic Excellence Award, the highest honor given by the department.

She also served in key leadership positions, including Vice President of the American Association of Drilling Engineers (AADE) WVU Chapter, and as a Student Ambassador for the Statler College of Engineering.

In addition, she received scholarships from respected professional bodies, including the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) International and the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA).

Expressing gratitude, Ansa thanked God for sustaining her and appreciated her supervisor, Dr. Shahab D. Mohaghegh, for his belief in her potential. She also acknowledged the unwavering support of her family, friends, and mentors who played pivotal roles throughout her journey.

Reflecting on her achievement, she said the experience significantly strengthened her personal and academic growth, pushing her beyond her perceived limits and shaping her into a more resilient scholar.

As she closes this chapter, Ansa looks forward to the next phase of her career with confidence,m inspired by the strong foundation her MSc journey has provided and the endless possibilities ahead.
