A determined Nigerian lady named Deborah Olusessi, has achieved remarkable success by graduating with a First-Class degree in Education from Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), after an 11-year journey filled with setbacks, perseverance, and unwavering faith.
Her story is a powerful reminder that delays are not denials.
Deborah's Story and How She Did It
Deborah completed her secondary school education in 2014, but her journey was not smooth from the start.
She initially failed her WAEC examination, a setback that could have ended her academic dreams. Instead, she chose to try again, rewriting her O’level exams and pushing forward.
In 2016, she gained admission into the Federal College of Education Abeokuta, where she studied diligently and graduated in 2019 with an Upper Credit.
With her eyes set on furthering her education immediately, Deborah applied for Direct Entry admission into Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) in 2020—her dream school. Unfortunately, she was not offered admission.
That rejection hit hard. Deborah recalls in a Facebook post how she cried deeply that year, a moment that never made it to social media but shaped her journey. In 2021, the disappointment lingered, causing her to lose motivation temporarily.
And thus, she did not apply for admission that year, missing the opportunity as the application window closed. But still, she did not give up on her dream to further.
In 2022, Deborah found strength again. With renewed faith and determination, she applied for Direct Entry into TASUED, and this time, she was offered admission. That single moment changed everything.
Years of waiting, pain, and persistence finally began to pay off. Deborah remained focused throughout her studies, and in the end, she graduated with a First-Class degree.
Reflecting on her journey, she shared the many silent struggles she endured includi ng the tears after failing WAEC in 2014, the disappointment of scoring 178 in JAMB due to technical issues in 2016 and the heartbreak of not gaining admission into FUTA in 2020.
Through it all, she held on to faith. According to her, those 11 years were filled with waiting, perseverance, and trust in God. “This journey wasn’t by my strength… God carried me, she said.
Today, as a proud graduate, Deborah looks back with gratitude, acknowledging how far she has come despite the odds.
Now, with her bachelor’s degree in hand, she is setting her sights higher, planning to pursue a Master’s degree and continue her academic journey.
