This young Lady wanted to be a doctor but switched to Engineering and graduated with a 4.78 first-class.

A brilliant Nigerian lady named Priscillia Agaban has achieved remarkable academic success, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with an outstanding 4.78 cumulative grade point average from Covenant University, Nigeria.

Priscillia’s journey reflects excellence, growth, and intentional decision-making. Although she once dreamed of becoming a medical doctor, she made a bold shift into Engineering and still graduated with first-class honours.

Priscilla's Story and How She Did It

Like many children, her early ambition was simple and familiar: “I want to be a doctor when I grow up!”

For her, it was partly inspired by the prestige attached to the title. However, as she grew and gained clarity, she discovered a genuine interest in engineering, a path that would ultimately define her academic and professional journey.

In 2021, she began her studies in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Covenant University.

From the very beginning, she committed herself to academic excellence, navigating the demands of a challenging curriculum filled with technical courses, practical sessions, and continuous assessments.

Throughout her five years on campus, Priscillia maintained consistency, discipline, and a strong work ethic.

Engineering, as a course, requires not just theoretical understanding but also hands-on application, problem-solving skills, and analytical thinking, all of which she demonstrated at a high level to graduate with a 4.78 CGPA.

Reflecting on her journey, she described it as far from easy. She faced the realities of adapting to a new environment, dealing with different teaching styles, and overcoming moments of self-doubt, especially in areas she once felt confident in.

There were times she considered giving up, but she chose to push through. Her final year was particularly demanding.

She had to balance intense academic work with multiple leadership responsibilities, while also completing her final-year project—a MATLAB-based simulation of a fuzzy logic advisory system designed to monitor and optimize a solar power system.

This project alone reflects strong technical competence and practical application of engineering knowledge, further highlighting the depth of her academic achievement.

Beyond academics, Priscillia took on significant leadership roles that shaped her personal and professional growth.

She served as the Head of Operations for the Covenant University Chaplaincy Technical Crew (Olive Media), where she managed a large service unit of over 300 members across multiple sub-units and executives.

Her role required coordination, decision-making, conflict resolution, and ensuring the smooth execution of technical operations such as sound, lighting, and media during programs.

In addition, she led the Production Team for TEDxCovenantUniversity 2025, successfully overseeing the execution of the event themed “Become.” She also served as the Technical Team Lead for the Proverbs 31 Women’s Conference.

Balancing these responsibilities alongside a demanding engineering program was not easy. It required resilience, time management, and emotional intelligence.

Through these experiences, she developed key leadership lessons, understanding that actions influence team outcomes, clarity drives alignment, and true leadership is rooted in listening and humility.

These experiences also shaped her growing interest in automation and control systems, a specialized field within engineering that focuses on designing intelligent systems to improve efficiency and functionality in various industries.

Outside the classroom, Priscillia explored her creative and technical interests in stage lighting. What started as a casual curiosity evolved into a valuable skill. Over time, she transitioned from learning basic setups to confidently operating digital lighting consoles for concerts and events.

A major milestone came when she handled lighting for five events outside the university—both volunteer and paid projects—marking a significant step in her growth and professional exposure.

Looking back, she sees her journey as one filled with lessons, growth, and transformation. Every challenge, every long night, and every responsibility contributed to the person she has become today.

Now, as a graduate, she looks forward to building a career as an automation and control engineer, while also exploring opportunities in creating immersive event experiences through 3D modelling and stage lighting.
