AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian man named Jimeto Kehinde Iyanu has achieved remarkable success, graduating with a First Class degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), finishing with an exceptional 4.91/5.00 cumulative grade point average (CGPA).
His journey is one of determination, academic excellence, and a strife for joint success among his peers.
Kehinde's Story and How She Did It
Kehinde began his academic journey in 2019 as a young, hopeful student determined to change the trajectory of his life.
He often described himself as “a local naïve boy,” but everything shifted the moment he earned a perfect 5.00 grade point average in his very first semester. That defining achievement reshaped his mindset.
It was then he told himself: “If excellence is attainable, why settle for less?”
With that, he adopted a powerful philosophy; the only grade capable of increasing his CGPA was 5.00, and anything lower would bring it down. This mentality fueled his pursuit of excellence across all 10 semesters.

Across six years, Kehinde completed 79 courses, earning 72 As, 7 Bs, with no other grades or failures. This stellar performance placed him among the top 1% of FUTA’s graduating class and among the top 5 students who finished with a CGPA above 4.9.
He graduated in 2025, earning a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering (First Class Honours). Beyond classroom brilliance, Kehinde made an extraordinary impact on his department.
Kehinde served as Class Representative from the 100 level to the 500 level, contributed to the historic achievement of his class, which produced 28 First Class graduates and 35 Second Class Upper graduates, a first in FUTA’s 44-year history, that the department achieve such outstanding results.
He also played a key role in leading the department to produce the overall best graduating student, Aduragbemi Akindunbi (4.98/5.00), second-best graduating student, Olaseile Oluwatosin (4.97/5.00)
He also earned 10 Dean’s List Awards — one for each semester. Kehinde’s journey was not just about grades. He distinguished himself as: Technical Director, NICESA Southwest (2022/2023) nd Ondo State Coordinator, NICESA (2023/2024)
During the journey, he also interned at Ove Arup & Partners Nigeria Ltd and Chevron Nigeria Limited and received multiple scholarships throughout his undergraduate years, which eased his financial burden and motivated him to aim higher.
Kehinde attributes his success primarily to God’s grace. He also expressed deep gratitude to his mentors, lecturers, classmates, and friends whose support and encouragement kept him grounded.
Looking ahead, he remains committed to excellence, driven by faith, discipline, and the belief that “with God and hard work, anything is possible.”
