AMERICA | Twin sisters Jhenelle and Shenelle Robinson have made history in their family after graduating from the University of the West Indies (UWI), Jamaica, with Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology.
Their achievement is not only scholarly but deeply symbolic — a shared dream fulfilled, a generational barrier broken, and a journey that showcased resilience, sisterhood, and unwavering determination.
The Robinson's Story and How They Did It
From birth, the Robinson twins have always walked through life side by side. In 2021, when they finished at Manchester High School, they sat together and discussed their future.
Though they had different motivations, their vision was the same: pursue Psychology at UWI. For Jhenelle, the inspiration came from her passion for helping people.
“I love helping people, especially children. It gives me a deep sense of satisfaction,” she said.
For Shenelle, the fascination was scientific. “I’ve always been interested in how the brain works, and how the environments we live in shape our choices and actions, ”she said.
Together, they entered university with a shared purpose: not just to earn degrees, but to elevate their family into a new chapter where higher education becomes part of their legacy.

The twins described their university journey as uniquely rewarding because they faced every stage together, from lectures, assignments, challenges, exams, and breakthroughs. Their academic partnership became one of their greatest strengths.
“The best part of going to university with my sister is knowing I always have someone to rely on. We’re in the same classes, so if one of us misses a lecture, the other attends and brings the notes,” Shenelle said.
For Jhenelle, the support system extended into exam preparation. “Having a twin really helped. If one of us didn’t understand a concept, the other would teach it. During exam periods, that support was everything.”
Their teamwork turned their academic experience into a powerful form of shared scholarship, learning, understanding, and succeeding together.
But their dream of graduating side by side was nearly derailed when Shenelle failed a course. The course was usually only offered in January, meaning she would have had to delay graduation until 2025.
The news devastated both sisters, especially Jhenelle, who could not imagine graduating without her twin. However, in what the sisters describe as divine intervention, the university unexpectedly offered the course during the summer semester.
Shenelle seized the opportunity, retook the course, passed, and reclaimed her place beside her sister in the graduation procession.
For Shenelle, walking across the graduation stage carried deep emotion. “It was a dream come true. I got goose pimples walking across the stage because many people don’t know the struggles of university. That moment was my testimony,” she said.
While for Jhenelle on the other hand, the moment was even more overwhelming.
“The idea of graduating without her really brought sadness to me. Watching her walk across the stage in front of me was such a proud moment. We prayed for this, and God truly worked it out.”
Their graduation marked not just the end of a degree program, but the beginning of a new legacy, proof to future generations in their family that education is attainable, powerful, and worth striving for.
