Twin sisters named Oprah and Eleanor Nkera have emerged as Medford High School’s best-graduating students after scoring a 4.45 and 4.46 grade point average respectively.
Oprah and Eleanor Nkera are 17-year-old twins from Medford who were both awarded the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of their school after they scored the highest grade point in their set.
The Nkera twins are the youngest of five children born to immigrant parents from the Republic of Congo. They were both granted te opportunity to give a speech at their graduation ceremony.
For her speech, Eleanor said she drew inspiration from her physics teacher, comparing her classmates to “quarks,” or a “simple elemental particle and the building block of all visible matter in the universe.”

Truth be told every one of us here acts as a particle. Like these particles, we’re all united here by chance. Regardless of where we come from, we’re united by our shared collisions within the walls of our school,” Eleanor said.
Oprah on the other hand spoke of life as an identical twin and she compared her classmates with her siituation.
“Which one are you?”These four mere words form one of the most annoying questions to ask an identical twin. Second only to ‘Can twins actually feel each other’s pain?’” Ironically enough, we, the Medford High School Class of 2024, are all twinning today,” Oprah said.
Oprah urged the graduates to embrace integrity, generosity, and compassion, together with the most pressing issues, such as climate change and social justice. “Most importantly, let us remember that the sum of our decisions has the power to transform the future,” she said.
Aside from academics, the twins competed on the school’s swim and tennis teams. They also started a club called Seeds to Feed, to address food insecurity. The twins plan to proceed with their education at Harvard University, Cambridge where they want to pursue science degrees.
“We both, like, want to kind of make our separate paths. Harvard will be a chance for us to branch out meeting people, but then, like, stay close at the same time,” Eleanor said.
It’s going to be really different. I’m excited. College is such an opportunity to meet such a diverse array of people,” she added. Eleanor plans to major in Biomedical Engineering, and Oprah plans to major in Neuroscience.
Eleanor stated that she wants to focus on brain-computer interfaces and portable devices while Oprah is not sure if she wants to be a doctor, or not. “We study together a lot. If one of us has an issue, or we don’t understand something, we help each other,” Oprah said.
