A young African man named Paa Kwesi Asare has made history as the first person to win BBC’s $10,000 media award in Ghana.
Paa Kwesi Asare, a presenter of a Ghana-based company, Media General has been awarded 10,000 dollars by the company for winning the 2023 BBC News Komla Dumor Award.
Kwesi also made history as the first Ghanian to ever win the award since its establishment. The BBC News Komla Dumor Award was founded in 2015 to honor the memories of Komla Dumor, a BBC World News presenter noted for his devotion to detailed and accurate reporting on African issues.Â
The cash was presented to Kwesi by a member of the company’s Board of Directors, Madam Norkor Duah after his news time at TV3’s News 360. Madam Duah praised him for his growth and dedication to the company.

“You brought honour to this company and Ghana; to have won this award is just by God’s grace, for seven years, you have grown into the sort of person who deserves to be awarded. Congratulations,” she said.
He expressed gratitude and thanked the company’s management for trusting him enough to work and represent them. ”I also want to thank you for reposing so much confidence in me,” he said.
Kwesi has been a dedicated and award-winning employee of the Media General Company for the past seven years. He was also the runner-up for the BBC world news award in 2015.
