Young African woman bags PhD in Climatology, earns promotion as a professor

A young African woman named Nana Ama Browne Klutse who bagged a doctorate at the University of Cape Town in South Africa has been promoted to Associate Professor at the University of Ghana.

Nana is a Kenyan native who earned a promotion as an Associate professor at the University of Ghana, Accra two years after she became a professor. She beat the odds to be successful despite being a single mother of 3.

She stated that growing up, she was exposed to a community where teenage pregnancy was very prevalent but she did not allow that to influence her, instead, she decided to take a much different path.

After graduating from high school, Nana went to the University of Cape Coast in Ghana where she obtained both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Physics . She proceeded to bag her Ph.D. in Climatology at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

Nana proceeded to manage the Remote Sensing and Climate Centre after she graduated. She also served as a senior research scientist at the Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission for two years.

She is also a member of the Scientific Board of the International Basic Sciences Programme of UNESCO. Nana also co-investigated several research projects regarding climate and even served as a principal investigator for some.

Despite having numerous research projects at hand, Nana was at the same time working at the Department of Physics at the University of Ghana. She went from being a lecturer to senior lecturer, and professor within a short time and has now been promoted to associate professor.


Nana’s achievement is beyond just being a professor, she has been cited in dozens of academic articles around the world related to climate change.
