A young American boy named Carter Kilby has achieved an outstanding feat as he graduates from High school and University the same day. He bagged a computer science degree from the university.
Carter Kilby bagged his bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems with a focus on Cybersecurity from the University of Akron in the United States in May with a 3.60 Grade Point and obtained his High school diploma from Chagrin Falls High School two weeks after.
Carter participated in the College Credit Plus Program (CCP), a dual-credit program that allows students to earn a high school and college credit at the same pace. He mentioned that the ability to manage his time and resources helped him a lot.
“You do not have to be gifted to do this, you just need to be resourceful and plan, I managed a spreadsheet with all the credits and requirements needed to graduate from both high school and college. You also have to be independent enough to take class on a college campus,” he said.

Carter said his main motivation was the cost savings the College Credit Plus gave him, stating that it helped his family. His tuition was paid for through the program, 30 credit hours per year is free, where according to US News and World Report, the average cost of in-state tuition at a public university is $10,338, so the cost savings they afforded was huge.
He mentioned that the reason he enrolled into the University of Akron was because the university was offering a course that directly correlated with his future career. He was interested in the university’s Cybersecurity Program which is very rare for public universities in the United States.
Carter said his parents were his huge supporters through out his time in college “My parents are awesome, they drove me to Akron when I first started because I was only 14,” he said.

Despite being in college at his young age, Carter said he did not regret missing out on the high school life. He said he still find a way to balance his social life with college ,that when he is not on campus, he is back home running cross country and track or hanging out with his friends and family.
“I’m indifferent to it, I have a good balance of social life and extracurriculars back home, so I don’t feel like I am missing out. Plus, I don’t have to deal with the stress that comes with applying for college, which all my friends are experiencing now. I chose the path that was right for me, absolutely zero regrets,” Carter said.
Carter completed the cybersecurity program’s internship requirement and worked at Center Link Technologies in 2021. While a student, he also participated in the Cyber Defense Club student organization of his school.
After graduation, Carter said he plans to take time off and travel before pursuing full-time work in the cybersecurity field.
