Young boy emerges best graduating student at US high school and goes on to win scholarship to university, here is how he did it

Through persistence and hard work, Luciano maintained outstanding grades year after year, eventually earning the highest academic distinction in his class, a recognition that comes only to the most dedicated and disciplined students.

For Luciano, every achievement is rooted in his deep love for family. His parents, Nairobert and Rosa, worked tirelessly to provide for him and his siblings, Obbie, Delvis Roman, and Clairis. His father runs a local barbershop, while his mother works two jobs to support the family.

“Seeing my mom struggle with bills, you know, there’s just financial pressure that’s overwhelming on her. So I try to help out as much as I can. They mean everything to me. Everything I do is in honor of them,” he said. 

And this deep sense of gratitude and responsibility became his motivation to excel,  both in academics and in sports.

Beyond the classroom, Luciano proved himself a star on the Lawrence High School track and field team, where he specialized in discus throw. Amazingly, he did not even pick up a discus until his freshman year, and yet, through focus and discipline, he became a Division I State Champion at Tufts University.

His head coach, Jonathan Manuel Speing, praised him not only for his talent but for his leadership.

“His leadership ability is second to none. He’s been incredible in bringing along our younger athletes. I’ve never met anyone more competitive than him,” Jonathan said.

Luciano’s achievements extend beyond academics and athletics. He was also honored as the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club’s Youth of the Year, a recognition that celebrates young people who show excellence, leadership, and service to their community.

Now, with a full track and field scholarship, he will be attending Brown University in the fall, where he hopes to continue combining academic excellence with athletic brilliance.
