A brilliant young lady named Oluchi Nwaokorie has achieved remarkable academic success, earning a bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering with first-class honours from the University of Lagos.
Her achievement reflects strong excellence and resilience. Despite prolonged academic disruptions she achived excellence which highlights her consistency, discipline, and intellectual strength.
Oluchi's Story and How She Did It
Oluchi began her academic journey at UNILAG in 2016. Throughout her time in university, she maintained a high level of academic performance.
However, her journey was not without challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic and prolonged academic union strikes extended her program from the usual duration to nearly eight years.
Despite these delays, she remained focused. Rather than losing momentum, she continued to pursue excellence, staying committed to her studies and long-term goals. By 2023, her persistence paid off as she graduated with first-class honours.
Her journey at the university was also well-rounded.
Beyond academics, Oluchi distinguished herself through leadership and extracurricular involvement.
She served as Treasurer of the Faculty of Engineering and later as Head of Logistics for the Professor Ayodele Awojobi Design Competition (PAADC), one of the most recognized engineering competitions in West Africa.
She also demonstrated innovation and impact. Oluchi won two Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) design competitions and went further to found a youth-led environmental organization, showing her commitment to sustainability and real-world problem-solving beyond the classroom.
In addition, she earned multiple scholarships during her undergraduate years, recognizing her academic excellence and potential.
All these efforts came together to open global opportunities. Her strong academic record, leadership experience, and commitment to environmental impact earned her not just one, but two fully funded scholarships abroad.
She secured admission into the Padova–Tsinghua Double Degree Master’s Programme in Environmental Science and Engineering, where she will study at both Tsinghua University School of Environment and University of Padova.
These scholarships are funded by the Chinese Government and the University of Padova, covering her postgraduate studies and research.
At Tsinghua University, ranked among the top institutions globally for environmental studies, Oluchi will focus her research on solid waste management and policy development, contributing to solutions for environmental sustainability.
