Young Lady wins Erasmus Mundus Scholarship to study in three Europe Universities, here is how she did it

AFRICA | A young Ghanaian woman named Dorothy Buatsi has achieved an incredible academic milestone of earning the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, a fully funded opportunity to pursue a two-year Master’s degree across three European universities.

Growing up, Dorothy developed a deep passion for archaeology, often captivated by archaeology-themed movies, cartoons, and documentaries.

This motivated her to choose a course of study in that field for her undergraduate study. She studied for the course to explore the past through the materials left behind by ancient populations.

Dorothy graduated with a first-class degree (GPA 3.90) in Archaeology and Political Science from the University of Ghana, Legon. During her university years, she actively volunteered, finding immense fulfillment in dedicating her time to meaningful causes.

Following her graduation, she completed her mandatory National Service at the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies at her university. There, she took on multiple roles, serving as an Assistant Curator and Museum Guide at the department’s museum, as well as a Research Assistant for faculty members.

On a faithful day, while at her service post, she had a conversation with a Master’s student who introduced her to the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship.

At the time, she had been considering applying to universities on her own, but discovering the scholarship enlightened her more.

As she explored the available programs, she found several that aligned perfectly with her academic background. With the support of her supervisor, lecturers, and friends, she meticulously prepared and submitted her applications.

In 2021, Dorothy applied for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship—and fortunately, she was selected on her very first attempt. The scholarship covers all expenses, including tuition, a monthly stipend, travel costs, and comprehensive insurance.

With the scholarship, she will be studying for a masters degree in Archeolgy at the University of Évora, Portugal, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Greece and Sapienza Università di Roma in Italy.

Dorothy encouraged applicants to remain hopeful and confident in their journey:
“Believe in your potential, but don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Apply to multiple opportunities and trust that the right one will come your way,” she said.
